Cummins developing fully-electric powertrain: “We are not just a diesel company”
In an effort to diversify its commercial transportation product portfolio beyond diesel and natural gas-powered engines, Cummins announced it will introduce a fully electrified powertrain solution for the urban transportation market by 2019 and a range-extended electrified powertrain by 2020.
The company said electric powertrain solutions for pickup and delivery and material handling applications would follow, but did not announce near-term plans for such systems in the North American commercial trucking industry, citing the familiar battery size and weight issues associated with long-range applications.
U.S.-made, Cat-powered Monterra 4×4/6×6 cabovers are reset Army trucks aimed at construction
Acela Truck Company will be debuting its extreme-duty Monterra truck line at the upcoming Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The Monterra 4×4 and 6×6 cabover trucks, which meet the U.S. Army’s coveted ‘ultra-reliable’ status, are marketed for commercial markets that demand high performance off-road trucks including oil and gas, mining, utilities, fire departments, pipeline construction and forestry (see video below).
As the newest commercial truck chassis provider, Montana-based Acela is aiming to disrupt a market that hasn’t seen new competition in decades. The company uses a proprietary process to reset U.S. Army Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTVs) to a near zero-mile condition.
Prinoth adds rubber-track option, new dump bed to Panther T16 carrier
The Panther T16 now comes with metal-embedded solid rubber tracks, making the Prinoth track carrier better equipped for traveling on the road and riding on shop floors, the company says.
Prinoth also added a dump box to the T16 that is lined with Hardox steel and can handle up to 11.5 cubic yards of material. The T16 is still available with a traditional D-dent track system and flat bed.
The T16 has a bulk load material payload of 33,500 pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating of 75,000 pounds. It has a top speed of 8 mph.
Seppi M. intros Maxisoil 350, its largest forestry tiller, stone crusher
Seppi M. says its new Maxisoil 350 is the largest forestry tiller and stone crusher in the world. Designed for 300- to 500-horsepower tractors, it is available in widths of 98 and 138 inches.
It is designed for a variety of tasks, among them crushing stones on roads, creating and maintain gravel roads, clearing brush on construction sites, clearing forests after harvesting wood, and right-of-way clearing.
It can crush stone and mulch wood up to 20 inches and can till soil 14 inches deep.
International adds Fabco offset axle as WorkStar option
International’s WorkStar 7400 and 7500 models will feature a Fabco FSD-20K right-hand offset axle as a new option.
The new offset bowl axle offering gives operators the flexibility to increase load capacity to 20,000 pounds without sacrificing ground clearance or cab height.
The Fabco front driving axle reduces ride height compared to center bowl drive axles by greater than four inches.
