The Cat 583T pipelayer uses a Cat C15 ACERT, 347-horsepower engine and has a 100,000-pound operating weight. It has a 140,000-pound lifting capacity for pipe placement. The structure includes full-box sections, steel castings, elevated final drives and continuous rolled rails. Its boom and hook drawworks are driven by independent hydraulic winches, and many parts are interchangeable between hook- and boom-winch assemblies.
