CAROL STREAM, Ill., Feb. 11, 2008 ” Continuing their tradition of delivering unsurpassed

power, Kobelco Construction Machinery America announces its newest full-size excavator

model, the SK170LC Acera Mark 8. With a Tier III certified IVECO by FPT engine, the

machine cranks out 121 net horsepower and 387 ft-lbs of torque, producing 8 percent more

raw power. The machine™s new cab features provide maximum visibility and control, ensuring

that operators will have the tool they need to get the job done.

Operators depend on our excavators every day for challenging and crucial jobs, and

it™s vital that they be able to navigate the job site with confidence and efficiency, said Paul

Golevicz, brand marketing manager at Kobelco America. It is so important that features

focusing on operator visibility, control and comfort are backed by heavy-duty design

engineering and a powerful, state-of-the-art engine.

A notable innovation is the Intelligent Total Control System (ITCS), which puts the

power directly into the hands of the operator by sensing his moves and providing hydraulic

power precisely where it is needed. This allows operators to take on tough jobs, as well as

deliver fine grading and leveling with little need for additional work. Power Boost and Heavy

Lift features allow for approximately 10 percent more bucket breakout force and roughly 10 percent more lifting and swing capability.

ITCS, the IVECO by FPT engine and the Power Boost feature carries on the

Kobelco brand legacy with an added focus on the marriage of power and precision, said

Golevicz. For the operators who are in the trenches everyday, a machine™s power is

undermined if precision is lost, and precision is nothing without the power to back it up.

The Kobelco SK170LC is manufactured by Kobelco America in the USA, at the

company™s Calhoun, Ga. factory. The machine has a maximum operating weight of 37,800 lbs

and a maximum digging depth of 21 feet, 5 inches. The hydraulic system uses high-capacity,

small-particle filtration to increase maintenance interval times, and the radiator and hydraulic

systems can be serviced independently, making maintenance on the machine not only less

frequent, but easier than ever.

Kobelco Construction Machinery America manufactures and markets a full line of compact,

mid-size and full-size excavators ranging from 1.9 to 88 tons. Kobelco engineering is dedicated

to power and precision, and every Kobelco excavator is designed and manufactured by

Kobelco America to exceed customer expectations. With over 250 distribution outlets in North
