Does Volkswagen want a piece of Navistar?

|  June 12, 2012 |

Hot on the heels of today’s EPA smackdown is this bit of news: Volkswagen may want to buy a stake in Navistar.

The move, should it happen, would give VW some heavy diesel muscle to compete against Daimler, which owns Freightliner.

Navistar could use a friendly investor. The company posted a loss in the last quarter due to warranty claims, and the stock is down to its 2008 level. But VW may have to fight for it’s prize. Others including Fiat and Oshkosh are said to be eyeing this legendary brand as well.
