Cummins enters lower horsepower range

Cummins’ new QSF2.8 engine, introduced today at Intermat, offers 49 to 74 horsepower. The four-cylinder, 2.8-liter engine was displayed with a fully passive Cummins Compact Catalyst aftertreatment system, designed to meet Tier 4 Final emissions regulations. The smallest engine introduced by Cummins for the off-highway industry has full-authority electronic controls driving a high-pressure common rail fuel system.

The catalyst system is what Cummins calls a “fit and forget” system, ideally suited for use in rental equipment. The 507-pound weight resulted from the use of most cast-iron steel and composite materials.
