crime sceneAuthorities near Charleston, South Carolina have arrested a man they say stabbed and killed a coworker while they were renovating a department store.

Dennis Elvin Cervantes-Pavon, 33, was arrested last week for stabbing Raymond Muniz, 28, inside a Belk store they were working to renovate, according to a report from The Post and Courier.

Police told the paper an argument arose between the two men around 6 p.m. August 13. Pavon then grabbed an unspecified object nearby and stabbed Muniz in the chest, according to the report.

Muniz was rushed to East Cooper Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.

Pavon fled the scene of the crime but was found and arrested by Isle of Palms police officers the next afternoon.

According to a separate Post and Courier report, during his bond hearing August 15, Pavon denied the Mount Pleasant Police Department’s version of the events. Because he is a native of Honduras, Pavon could not be granted bail and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on him in order to have him transferred to their custody should he be released.

ICE would not confirm or deny whether Pavon had documents to work in the U.S. due to privacy reasons.
