Traffic In A Work ZoneThe Connecticut Construction Industries Association is fighting a legislative proposal to cut transportation funding, saying it would hurt the state’s economy, according to the Hartford Courant.

The association issued a report that said the state would lose $65 billion in economic activity over 20 years if it doesn’t increase funding for roads and public transit, the Courant reports.

The association has been fighting for more transportation funding for years.

Earlier this year, it supported legislation to implement electronic tolling in Connecticut to raise revenue. In announcing its support for the bill, the association cited a study by the governor’s office that it would cost $60 billion over 30 years to maintain current levels of service for roads, buses, trains and bridges, which is twice the state’s current spending level.
