A look at the main lot of ConExpo 2014 in Las Vegas.The largest trade show in the Western Hemisphere is getting even larger next year with the addition of a giant new space dedicated solely to the technology that will shape the future of the construction industry.
According to a release from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, ConExpo-Con/Agg 2017 will bring the show’s first ever Tech Experience, a 75,000-square-foot pavilion that will allow attendees to “step into the future.”

Located in Silver Lot 3, the space will house “innovative wearables to enhance health, safety and productivity, cutting-edge skills for careers of the future, and new materials to enhance our nation’s infrastructure.”
Show director and vice president of exhibitions and business development for AEM, Sara Truesdale Mooney, says the tech pavilion will be made up of three zones: worksite of the future, jobs of the future and infrastructure of the future.
“We’ll also feature additional engagement zones including a Maker Beta Lab that will feature a collaborative future factory environment and the world’s first fully functional 3D-printed excavator,” Truesdale Mooney said.
The excavator will be the first use of large scale use of steel in 3D printing and is being produced through an AEM partnership with Georgia Tech and the University of Minnesota to convert current excavator designs into one that is conducive to 3D printing.
In addition, the show is accepting proposals from AEM members to be included in the pavilion. Proposals will be evaluated against a simple set of criteria by an outside panel of experts.
