Colorado experiences $3.4 billion hospital building boom

Colorado is experiencing a $3.4 billion building boom thanks to 50 hospital construction projects across the state, NBC 11 News reported . In addition to new hospital construction, 11 additions have been started in Aspen, Boulder, Grand Junction, Pueblo and the Denver area.
With the building boom, Colorado may soon see its most expensive current hospital project, a $623 million new hospital that would be more energy-efficient and provide space for inpatients who are more ill than in the past.
Much of the building boom is attributed to factors such as new healthcare laws, increased outpatient care, a rise in the number of Coloradans 65 and older (the state expects a 54-percent growth in this number within this decade), lower building costs and a need for more private patient rooms.
