Chevrolet unveils the 2016 Colorado Z71 Trail Boss: a stylish yet sensible off-roader (PHOTOS)

With the Colorado a full-blown comeback success story, Chevrolet is not slowing down on development of the much-praised midsize pickup. The latest update to the truck is the new 2016 Z71 Trail Boss, a special edition model coming this fall.

Though much of the Trail Boss’ features carry over from last year’s model, Chevy has upped the truck’s styling a bit with black-finish 17-inch aluminum wheels, a black bowtie on the grille and—most notably—roll bars with a pair of LED trail lights. The bars are decorative, but effective in adding a nice touch to the overall look of the truck.

Like last year’s model, at the core of the 2016 Trail Boss is Chevy’s Z71 off-road package with its G80 automatic locking rear differential. The truck will be available with both the 2.5-liter and 3.6-liter V6 as well as the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel.

The truck sits on Goodyear Wrangler DuraTec all-terrain tires, features front recovery hooks, tubular assist steps and a spray-on bedliner.

There’s definitely more style to this little truck than hard-nosed capability, but when equipped with the Duramax, it’s a hard package to argue with in terms of price and fuel economy.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but we’ll keep you updated.
