In many states, road construction season is in full swing. And with the start of summer, more travelers are taking to the roads.

It’s around this time each year that state DOTs and construction safety advocates start ramping up reminders to stay safe in road construction zones, and those reminders often include a “do” and “don’t” list.

But this year, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is taking a different approach, using photos of kids dressed as construction workers accompanied with the text “If they looked like this… would you be more careful?”

The “Slow for the Cone Zone” ads have appeared on CDOT’s Facebook page with updates on statewide projects and reminders to travelers to be aware of workers in construction zones.
