This past weekend, Caterpillar held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a $14.8 million expansion at its large engine manufacturing plant and warehouse in Corinth, Mississippi.

Cat makes the C175 engine at the Corinth plant. The 42,000-pound, 20-cylinder, 4,000-horsepower engine is used for power generation and in mining equipment.

The newly-opened expansion will house the Large Engine Remanufacturing Facility where the C175 will be rebuilt, according to a report from the Daily Journal [2]. The 30 new employees the reman plant will add will disassemble each engine part by part and completely rebuild them in like-new condition.

Cat’s reman operations manager in Mississippi, Roberto Ortega, told the paper that the expansion “falls into the company’s plans to double its number of customers by 2020.”

The company now employs more than 1,200 people across its four plants and a warehouse in Corinth.
