Caterpillar names Tom Bluth VP of Mining Products

Caterpillar announced today that Tom Bluth will be moving from his post as vice president of the company’s Earthmoving Division to become vice president for Mining Products.
Bluth replaces Luis De Leon, who left the company shortly after an accounting scheme was uncovered at Zhengzhou Siwei Mechanical & Electrical Manufacturing Co. , a subsidiary of ERA Mining Machinery Limited which Cat purchased for $734 million last June.
Karl Weiss, Cat’s worldwide product manager for Caterpillar’s medium wheel loaders, will replace Bluth as VP of Earthmoving.
The moves will take effect April 1.
“Having led the Earthmoving Division since 2009, Tom has improved the market position and profitability for earthmoving machines and has consistently demonstrated the ability to improve product quality,” said Steve Wunning, Caterpillar group president with responsibility for Resource Industries.
Bluth joined Cat in its legal services division in 1995 from a private legal practice in Washington, D.C.Bluth was appointed vice president of the company’s Asia Pacific Manufacturing Operations in 2007. In 2009, he was appointed vice president of Earthmoving.
Bluth holds a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, a MBA from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Northwestern University.
Weiss joined Caterpillar in 1992 as a design engineer in Caterpillar’s Mining Vehicle Center in Decatur, Illinois. He has been worldwide product manager for Caterpillar’s medium wheel loaders since 2009.
Weiss holds a degree in agricultural engineering from Purdue University and a MBA from Northern Illinois University.
