Caterpillar bills the track loader as one of its most versatile machines and says the new 963K boasts several improvements that greatly increase that capability over its predecessor the 963D.

The 45,568-pound machine is powered by a 193-horsepower, Tier 4 Final Cat C7.1 ACERT engine equipped with a twin turbo for faster machine response under load. The new engine features an Eco Mode which automatically reduces engine while maintaining ground speed under light loads. Cat says the mode improves fuel efficiency by at least a 10-percent, but notes that fuel savings can reach 30 percent in some applications over the 963D.

Cat says the engine, which employs Selective Catalytic Reduction to meet emissions standards, is designed to use one tank of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) for each tank of fuel. The company said the 963K typically uses DEF at a rate of 2.5-3 percent of fuel consumption.

Cat offers several bucket options like General Purpose, Multipurpose and application-specific buckets for waste/landfill and ship hold work. However, for the 963K, Cat has introduced a new Performance Series bucket which the company says moves 5-10 percent more material per hour.

Ripper and quick coupler options are available as well.

Inside the updated and quieter cab, operators will find a suspension seat with adjustable armrests and controls. A heated/ventilated seat is also an option. Cat says the machine’s air conditioning has also been improved and a new display makes viewing operation data and customizing machine performance as easy as a few taps.

Joystick or two-lever controls are available. For speed control, a choice of joystick or the V-lever/foot pedal combo are offered. Operators can preset engine speeds thanks to variable throttle control and Selectable Electro-Hydraulic maps allow presetting implement response.

Cat says there is no need to stop the machine for regeneration. For servicing convenience, the DEF fill is located at ground level next to the fuel tank and the machine features a tilt cab with all other service points easy to reach.

The Product Link telematics service is integrated into the machine standard.
