Barko has designed its new Strong-Arm Grapples with 360-degree continuous rotation, strong clamping force and faster arm speed, the company says.

The grapples consist of three models and work with Barko B-Series loaders. The models – 4250, 4850 and 5250 – are named for their maximum opening widths of 42, 48.1 and 52.1 inches, respectively, and their 50,000-pound lift capacity.

The hydraulic motor is designed to maximize hydraulic flow for arm speed and production. The grapples are made of high-tensile, wear-resistant steel with hard face welding on the arm tips.

Barko says it designed the grapples for durability, with a compact rotor that keeps hoses in one bundle between the boom and the grapple; oversized, induction-hardened pins to reduce wear on pins and bushings; and cushioned cylinders with thick walls that have guarded load-holding valves. The motor’s internal components were tested and sized for tough conditions, the company says, and an internal relief cartridge prevents damage and oil leaks.

For service, the grapples have four inspection plates for the collector and hoses and 12 grease points.

B-Series machines compatible with the grapples include trailer- and truck-mounted, tracked, rough terrain carrier and stationary loaders.
