Atlas Copco introduces U.S.-made Tier 4A generators

Atlas Copco is introducing a range of Tier 4A generators in the power category above 150 kVA. The QAS 150 JD T4a, QAS 250 JD T4a and QAS 330 JD T4a offer minimized energy use, noise levels and environmental impact. The new generators are produced in Rock Hill, SC.
The QAS 150 JD T4a, QAS 250 JD T4a and QAS 330 JD T4a are powered by a fully Tier 4A compliant John Deere engines with VGT (variable geometry turbocharger) technology. The three generators offer low noise levels and a significant increase in energy efficiency. One tank of diesel lasts up to 24 hours at full load.
The generators have a containment base to prevent leakage, offering customers significant environmental benefits. As a result, customers no longer have to be concerned with soil contamination.
“Our customers need portable equipment that is Tier 4A compliant, but that also helps them meet their business goals,” Chuck Westhofen, factory product manager of the Rock Hill facility, said in a written statement. “The QAS 150 JD T4a, QAS 250 JD T4a and QAS 330 JD T4a offer customers the reliability, low energy use and easy maintenance that will help them work effectively and efficiently.”
The new generators are built in Atlas Copco’s manufacturing facility in Rock Hill, SC. “Local production allows us to offer shorter delivery times,” Westhofen added. “It also ensures that we can react quickly to the changing demands of our own customers and market.”
In January 2011, Tier 4A emission regulations for 130-560 kW off-road diesel engines went into effect. The standards require a reduction of particulate matter by no less than 90 percent and of NOx emission levels by 50 percent compared to previous standards.
The new standards apply to both variable and constant speed engines, affecting all larger compressors as well as generators.
The QAS 150 JD T4a, QAS 250 JD T4a and QAS 330 can be ordered now. Atlas Copco also offers a Tier 3 version for countries where Tier 4A standards do not apply.
