Leaders from five road and bridge building-related trade associations held a rally for World of Apshalt and AGG1 attendees pushing for more support and activism for a long-term highway funding bill.

Leaders from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA), the National Asphalt and Pavement Association (NAPA), and the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) spoke to a gathered crowd on March 18 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

“I urge you, for your companies and your employees, to get behind the effort to pass a highway bill,” said AEM President Dennis Slater. ARTBA President Pete Ruane urged attendees to immediately take out their phones and call Congress.

Astec Industries joined in the promotion with it’s walking “Mr. Bill” that was reminiscent of the School House Rock series character. The character walked around the show floor promoting the company’s “Don’t Let America Dead End” campaign. At each of its booths at the show, Astec offered kiosks where attendees could email letters to their representatives and President Obama about the issue.
