The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) recognized Dave Gehr, senior vice president and highway market leader at Parsons Brinckerhoff, with the George S. Bartlett Award at its recent Federal Issues Program.

In a career that spans more than 40 years, Gehr served in multiple roles at the Virginia Department of Transportation, ranging from district and regional engineer positions to assistant commissioner of operations, and ultimately to transportation commissioner.

He is a past president of the Institute of Transportation Engineers Virginia Section, and on boards and committees for ARTBA, TRB, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America and the I-95 Corridor Coalition.

The Bartlett award is co-sponsored by ARTBA, the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials and the Transportation Research Board (TRB). It recognizes individuals who have made “an outstanding contribution to highway progress in the U.S.”

ARTBA says Bartlett is “regarded as the greatest single influence on the use of concrete roads in the U.S.” and created experimental sections of concrete with the Wayne County Road Commission in Michigan and the University Portland Cement Company in 1909.
