William “Bill” Cox, a Maryland highway contractor and president of Annapolis Junction-based Corman Construction, was elected as the 2010-11 chairman of American Road and Transportation Builders Association. The election was announced during the association’s national convention, held Oct. 3-6 in New York City, New York.

Cox has more than 40 years of experience in the transportation design and construction industry.  For the past 22 years, he was president of Corman, a 90-year-old, family-owned heavy civil contractor focusing on all types of transportation infrastructure and marine construction.

Corman has been a key player in the development of some of America’s largest transportation improvement projects, including the $2.5 billion new Woodrow Wilson Bridge outside Washington, D.C., and the $2.56 billion Intercounty Connector under construction in Maryland.  The company has also worked on other projects in Maryland, Virginia, D.C. and West Virginia.

As chairman, Cox’s agenda is to lead the association’s push on passage of a new, multi-year federal highway and transit investment bill.
