APWA to hold first National Equipment Roadeo at 2017 PWX

The American Public Works Association (APWA) is planning to hold its first National Equipment Roadeo Aug. 29 during the 2017 Public Works Expo (PWX) in Orlando.

The competition will feature two backhoe operation events per participant, including a Tennis Ball Challenge and a Pipe Lift Pin Challenge.

Tennis Ball Challenge

The objective for this event is to remove a tennis balls from the top of five safety cones placed in a semi circle pattern in the backhoe swing area. The time limit is two minutes. More details, including the rules, are available here.

Pipe Lift Pin Challenge

This challenge involves placing a pipe lift pin into and out of the hole on the top of three safety cones, also placed in a semi circle pattern, with a time limit of two minutes. More details are available here.

APWA says registration is open to two participants per APWA chapter. The registration fee is $65 and includes a Roadeo t-shirt, lunch voucher, access to the PWX Exhibit Floor and two operations and maintenance education sessions. Registration is available here.
