American Concrete Pavement Association posts details for annual meeting in Orlando, starts Nov. 30

The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) has posted its schedule of events and other details for its 46th Annual Meeting to be held in Orlando, Fla., beginning Nov.30.

Related activities are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, although the official kick-off of the annual meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Highlights of the meeting this year include the following:

Concrete Pavement University – This program is patterned after basic, intermediate and advanced level courses, typically assigned 100, 200, and 300 levels found in universities. This is a serious approach to presenting technical topics, but there will be a few fun surprises in store for attendees and CPU instructors alike. Concrete Pavement University participants are eligible to receive up to 7.5 professional development hour (PDH) credits for participating.

Excellence in Concrete Pavement Awards Banquet – The 20th annual ACPA “Excellence in Concrete Pavement” awards honor quality concrete pavements constructed in North America each year.

In addition to recognizing highways, roadways, and airports, the “Excellence” awards will, for the first time in history, also include pavements used in industrial facilities. The awards are presented for new construction, pavement preservation/restoration, and rehabilitation.

Award winners who completed outstanding projects in 2008 will be honored at the association’s banquet and awards ceremony from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 4.

A complete listing of the 2009 award recipients may be found at http://www.acpa.org/Events_and_Programs/Events/46thAnnualMtg/Judging%20summary09.pdf or alternatively, accessing the “Awards” section of the annual meeting information found at www.acpa.org.

ACPA Committee and Task Force Meetings – A number of committees and task forces will convene to discuss relevant issues and other timely topics of interest to the transportation-construction community. With the exception of a couple of closed meetings to discuss Association governance, the task groups are open to all members and friends of the industry.

ACPA task groups are sharply focused on addressing specific challenges, and as such, members of industry, academia, and the public sector work side-by-side to provide oversight and input that directly relates to Association activities, products, and services. These meetings represent an opportunity to have a direct influence on specifications, practices, and products used in the construction and rehab of pavements for highways, airports, streets and roads, and industrial facilities.
