Allison Transmission unveils the more durable, more powerful 6630ORS

Updated Apr 14, 2016

IMG_0409Thirty seven years after first providing a Volvo articulated dump truck with a transmission, Allison has unveiled here at the Bauma show in Munch a brand new model that will launch inside Volvo’s largest truck yet.

The new 6630ORS is the latest transmission in Allison’s 6000 Series. The transmission features a new internal damper and an updated torque converter turbine with improve vane geometry.

Plus, it’s more durable than its predecessors thanks to an anodized surface treatment. A heavy duty retarder rotor is an available option.

Allison said it made modifications to the 6000 Series transmissions’ low and reverse planetary gear assemblies that extend this new model’s lifespan in high torque or prolonged reverse range operations such as mining. The modifications were a key factor in Volvo placing the engine inside its new A60H articulated hauler.

The A60H is being unveiled this week at Bauma. We’ll have more details on that truck very soon.
