That includes the southbound lanes of the West Sam Houston Tollway/Beltway 8 in Houston, which required extensive repairs. The section of the tollway was the last of the Harris County Toll Authority’s toll roads to reopen. Traffic resumed on the section between U.S. 290 and U.S. 59 South at 4 a.m. Sept. 14.
The authority had suspended all tolls in the aftermath of the hurricane. Tolling resumed Sept. 12 on all of the other toll roads.
During the height of Hurricane Harvey, more than 500 roads closed to storm damage and flooding in southeast Texas, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The TxDOT also reports that its DriveTexas.org website logged 5 million visits in the storm’s aftermath from people seeking road condition reports and alternative routes.
