Photo credit: Michael Penn/Juneau EmpireTwo Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) employees received top-level honors at the recent Governor’s Denali Peak Performance Awards, which recognize achievement in public service.
Four additional ADOT&PF employees received honorable mentions.
William Giltner, a maintenance specialist electrician, received the individual Exceptional Performance Award for his “hard work and dedication.” He is described as an “unstoppable force when it comes to tough, extremely remote bush airport electrical repairs.”
The department said that he improved airport readiness and reduced the backlog of remote airport lighting repairs in the Northern Region.
The team winner of the Crisis Responders Award is the Valdez Avalanche Fighters. They cleared “thousands of feet” of highway from snow that was 40 to 100 feet deep (an estimated 200,000 cubic yards of snow) due to an avalanche in the Thompson Pass and Keystone Canyon in January 2014. The group cleared the highway for safe travel in only 13 days.
“Our employees across the state perform extraordinary tasks every day to keep Alaska moving. The Denali Awards is a great opportunity to return our gratitude for the exemplary service that these individuals and teams contributed to Alaska this past year,” said ADOT&PF Commissioner Marc Luiken.
