AIRLANCO® Filter Media Options Meet Most Needs

Filter Replacement PartsFALLS CITY, NE – AIRLANCO’s Pleated Spun Bond polyester filtration media – used in industrial baghouse filters for dust removal in air temperatures up to 275°F – continue to outsell other media because of its reliability and cost effectiveness. Pleated Polyester provides a good combination of strength, efficiency, durability, and cost effectiveness. It does not attract oil-like polypropylene and nylon fibers, which can cause the media to deteriorate prematurely.

Spun Bond polyester media cleans easily – allowing even cartridges used in paint powder coating applications to work like new after a simple soap and water washing. AIRLANCO’s polyester filter media can be singed, glazed, or easily have PTFE membrane bonded to it. Anti-static treatments also can be added to dissipate static charges.

Reliable filtration of process air prevents air contamination and the loss of valuable product. Choosing the right filter medium – for temperature, strength, and durability – is one of the best ways to ensure reliable filtration. AIRLANCO offers several filter media options to suit most applications. Finishes, or mechanically applied surface treatments, generally improve dust cake formation on the media and enhance filter cleaning, are available. A variety of chemical treatments also can be applied to felt media to improve performance.

In addition to Polyester, AIRLANCO’s common filter media include Polypropylene, Nomex, P-84, Ryton, and Teflon® (PTFE).

Polypropylene is best known for its resistance to moisture. Although its maximum temperature is limited to just 190°F, it is resistant to a broad range of acids and alkalis. Polypropylene is nonadhesive, making it a good choice for sticky, adhesive dusts. Filters equipped with polypropylene seldom have large differential pressure from dust build-up if applied correctly.

Nomex is commonly used for dry heat applications – up to 400°F – and not recommended for high-humidity uses, which could cause the media to deteriorate. Nomex is not a thermoplastic and cannot be glazed; however, it can be singed using special techniques.

P-84 is a polyamide fiber with a high-temperature resistance – withstanding up to 460°F of continuous use. The tri-lobal fiber shape gives P-84 a larger surface area, making it an efficient filter fabric. P-84 is not available in a large variety of finishes and must be treated with Teflon B to bond a PTFE membrane.

Ryton is a relatively high-temperature synthetic fiber – able to operate at 375°F of continuous use – and is chemically resistant to a broad range of acids, alkali, and oxidizing agents. Ryton has a low rate of moisture absorption, similar to Polypropylene, but at higher temperatures. It is a thermoplastic and can be singed, glazed, and easily bonded to PTFE membrane.

Teflon (PTFE) is available in either felt produced in combination with staple glass fibers or as a woven fabric. It is unique in its ability to resist chemical attack across the entire pH range through its operating temperature range. It is nonadhesive, has zero moisture absorption, and is unaffected by mildew or ultraviolet light. Teflon (PTFE) has poor abrasion resistance and a relatively high cost – which can be offset through longer life in extreme corrosive conditions.
