AEMP-AEM to release beta of new telematics standard in coming weeks; registration open now to OEMs, providers

This morning, the Association of Equipment Management Professionals and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers announced that a beta version of their new telematics standard will be released in the “coming weeks.”
The associations have opened up registration to receive the beta when it is released. OEMs and third party telematics providers can register at http://www.aemp.org/aemaemp-telematics-standard/ . Registered OEMs and providers will receive the latest version of the beta and be notified when changes are made prior to a final release of the standard.
The new standards mean that equipment fleet owners and managers won’t have to chase down telematics data on multiple OEM websites, but rather have that information fed directly into company systems.
Fleet owners don’t need to download the beta but they are urged to contact their current or potential telematics vendor and ask them to register.
During ConExpo, AEMP and AEM announced plans to release the final version of the standard by the end of this year. “A governance and management structure are being put into place to address further updates, security, and a certification program for providers of telematics,” according to the joint announcement for the coming beta.
The two associations have worked together on the standard for the last six months, expanding it from six data points to 19 data points and 42 fault codes.
Telematics data from the machines will be provided to the end user via an Application Program Interface (API) with server-to-server data sharing protocols.
These allow the end users to employ their own business software to collect and analyze asset data from mixed equipment fleets without the need for customization work across multiple telematics provider applications.
The new standard also defines a format that enables OEMs to deliver fault code information as part of the data feed.
