ABC selects Excellence in Construction Awards recipients

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has selected the winners of its annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration, a competition which recognizes the top construction projects and the firms that displayed exemplary commitment to safety and diversity in 2012.
ABC congratulated the winners on February 20 at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The competition consists of three awards: Excellence in Construction, National Safety Excellence and National Diversity Excellence.
The Excellence in Construction award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
The Excellence in Construction awards include Eagle Winners and Pyramid Winners, each consisting of specialty contractor categories and general contractor/construction management categories.
The Eagle Winners for the specialty contractor categories are Helix Electric in Kapolei, Hawaii; Starr Electric Company in WinstonSalem, North Carolina; ISC Constructors in Carville, Louisiana; ISC Constructors in Geismar, Louisiana; Interstates Companies in Hallock Minnesota; KPOST Company in Dallas, Texas; Lasco Acoustics and Drywall in Irving, Texas; TDIndustries in Fort Worth, Texas; Brockway Mechanical & Roofing in Larchwood, Iowa; ExcelSun in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands; ACI Mechanical in Houston, Texas; KWest Group in Port Clinton, Ohio; Excel Fabrication & Construction in Norco, Louisiana; and Durr Heavy Construction in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The 2012 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond and Platinum status in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP). During the selection process, national safety winners were judged on selfevaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable rates, use of leading indicators, innovation in processes and training and interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Environment, Health & Safety Committee.
The Safety Excellence Awards consist of Pinnacle Winners, Excellence Winners and Merit Winners.
