AASHTO fills positions on committee and National Operations Center of Excellence board

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has appointed three individuals to a program position, committee position and board position.

AASHTO President Paul Trombino named Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT) Steve Lund to a two-year term as chairman of the association’s Snow and Ice Cooperative Program. Lund is director of MnDOT’s Office of Maintenance and Security and also serves vice chairman of AASHTO’s Highways Subcommittee on Maintenance.

AASHTO’s Snow and Ice Cooperative Program “helps participants apply state-of-the-art technologies and best practices to winter roadway maintenance, and the Winter Maintenance Policy Coordinating Committee works closely with SICOP Coordinator Rick Nelson.”

Mike Holder was named chairman of the Highways Subcommittee on Traffic Engineering (two-year term) and will be the Region 2 board member at the National Operations Center of Excellence. Holder is chief engineer at the North Carolina Department of Transportation and has been with the agency for 31 years.

Russell Yurek, Maryland Department of Transportation Office of Maintenance director, has been appointed to a two-year term as co-vice chairman of the AASHTO Highways Subcommittee on Maintenance, service alongside Lund. He has served for 38 years at the Maryland State Highway Administration and has held his current position for 18 years.
