A Great Fit: VMAC Develops UNDERHOOD Air Compressor for 2008 2500/3500 GM 6.6L Diesel

NANAIMO, B.C. – VMAC has just released the latest engine-mounted air compressor system developed for the popular GM 6.6L 2500/3500 truck. The self-contained VMAC UNDERHOOD, housed almost entirely under the hood of the light-duty diesel, provides more space for tools and equipment required onboard. Beyond space savings, VMAC claims that utilizing the truck”s engine and cooling system saves owners significant maintenace costs because the system”s major components are integral to the Duramax engine. Aside from bearings and rotors, the air compressor has few moving parts – adding durability to the UNDERHOOD”s list of reported qualities.

“VMAC works closely with OEM engineers throughout product development ensuring our air compressor systems meet the same level of quality manufacturing and design as the vehicle the system mounts on.” Peter Dahle, VMAC Enginner.

VMAC maintains that it is the only manufacturer in North America developing UNDERHOOD systems for such a broad range of work trucks. “Our application list includes Ford, GMC, Chevy, Dodge, and Sterling light- and medium-duty work trucks. It”s a very diverse lineup,” says Natasha Bartlett, Marketing Analyst.

But the process of delivering 70CFM air compressors weighing less than 150LBS to market doesn”t come easy, claims the Canadian-based company. The 2008 GM 6.6L Duramax is one example of particulate reduction comtrols that have been placed on vehicles in an effort to reduce emissions. These controls are drastically changing the makeup of the engine, including vacant space for aftermarket equipment like air compressors.

“The newest generation of lower emission trucks with less room under the hood definitely creates interesting design challenges, but our 8 full-time engineers, one with a doctorate in air compressor technology, always manage to find a way to overcome these obstacles,” Dahle continues.

Despite the challenges, the GM 6.6L UNDERHOOD Air Compressor System by VMAC is considered a perfect fit. Mounted on the driver”s side and accessible from above, the air system is easily installed, easily maintained, and an instant source of air for the mobile work truck.

VMAC has engineered over 250 unique UNDERHOOD Air Compressor systems for light and medium duty work trucks, shipping more than 12,000 systems since 1986. For more information regarding VMAC products and technology, visit www.vmacair.com.
