2005 WINNER – Philip Childers – C & F Construction – Smackover, AR

Philip-ChildersWith nearly 2,000 exhibitors covering almost 2 million square feet of space, ConExpo is the biggest tradeshow in North America. It’s almost by accident that Philip Childers found himself in front of the Equipment World Magazine booth. As a long-time reader of the magazine, Childers knew about the “Contractor’s Dream Package” sweepstakes. So, on a whim, he filled out an entry form and went about the business of seeing this gigantic equipment show.

Several months later when Equipment World’s sweepstakes representative called Childers to tell him he’d won a new Ford F-550 Super Duty truck equipped with a ZF transmission, he said “I almost hung up. You know you get those kinds of calls all the time and I’d forgotten about the entry I’d filled out during ConExpo.” Once he received confirming faxes he knew it was for real. In addition to the Ford F-550, the Dream Package also includes a Thomas 35DT mini-skid-steer loader, an Ingersoll Rand equipment group consisting of a compactor, generator, rammer and balloon light, a Werk Brau credit-coupon for attachments valued at $5,000, a Trail King TK6U utility trailer, a Thompson 3-inch trash pump and an installed, under hood, VMAC air compressor. Truly a dream package valued at over $80,000.

Presentation of the prizes will be hosted by James Langley, owner of Smackover Motors, and Equipment World staff in Smackover, Ark., on Nov. 4.

C & F Construction was founded in 1945 by Philip Childers’ grandfather. The company specializes in roadwork and according to Childers: “We do everything from potholes to Wal-Mart parking lots.”

The Dream Package program offers Equipment World advertisers a way to promote their products in addition to traditional print advertising. For the past three years, a lucky contractor like Childers has won top-of-the-line equipment to add to their fleets, and Equipment World has accomplished its goal of serving its readers and advertisers. “It’s great to have a team that puts a program together like this, where everyone walks away smiling,” said Dan Tidwell, Equipment World publisher.
