These are no cheap tin toys but meticulously detailed scale models of classic Caterpillar machinery from Classic Construction Models. First up is a beautiful, high-detailed brass model of a Cat 5230 mining shovel with realistic fire suppression system, air intakes, engine exhausts work lights assembly hooks and access panels. The operator’s cab is fully detailed, access doors open for views of a detailed engine and hydraulics and the metal tracks are individually linked. The scale is 1:87 and the model is 8 inches long. At $1,395 though, it’ll run you a pretty penny. However, only 260 are being made.
For those who’d like to surprise their special someone with a more-reasonably priced but still awesome machine model, there’s the Cat D9L. Built to capture as much detail as the original D9L that was introduced back in 1980, this model features individually linked metal tracks with tensioners, an articulated blade, a detailed cab interior and accurate markings. The scale is 1:48 and it measures 8 inches long. It runs $189.95 and only 750 will be made.
